PLU officials report new members joining the movement as supporters discuss leadership, stability and Uganda’s political future

By Brian Mugenyi

KIRA, WAKISO — Ambassador Johnny Muhindo has urged Ugandans to join the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), saying the organisation seeks to promote leadership, stability and development through grassroots mobilisation and community engagement.

Speaking during a Baraza in Kira Municipality on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Muhindo said the exercise was intended to reconnect with communities and rally support behind the PLU as discussions about Uganda’s future leadership continue.

“We believe this unique transformation will benefit the people. The purpose of the exercise was to mobilise the people and bring them back to the Patriotic League of Uganda. If elections were held tomorrow, we believe PLU would win,” Muhindo said.

He criticised the opposition, arguing that it lacked a clear political direction and leadership capable of delivering stability and development.

“There is no clear trajectory in the opposition, no leadership, and if you want leadership, stability and development, it is better to come to the Patriotic League of Uganda,” he said.

The engagement also focused on jobs, household incomes, teamwork and accountability, with supporters discussing how leadership and economic policies could improve the livelihoods of ordinary Ugandans.

PLU reports growing support

Patriotic League of Uganda Head of Communications Frank Tumwesigye said the organisation was receiving new members, including local leaders, as it continued to mobilise support across the country.

According to Tumwesigye, the mobilisation exercise includes collecting data and signatures from supporters in different counties as the organisation seeks to expand its grassroots network.

He said the initiative was intended to strengthen the organisation’s engagement with communities and bring more people into its activities.

Mr Twaha Fadhil welcomed the initiative, citing former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi’s participation in the movement and his reported endorsement of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as Uganda’s next president.

Fadhil said Ssekandi’s involvement reflected the participation of established political figures in discussions about the country’s future leadership.

Meanwhile, Ann Kirabo, a PLU mobiliser based in California, reportedly endorsed Gen. Muhoozi and spoke in support of the movement.

The statements reflect the position of PLU supporters as the organisation continues its mobilisation activities. Claims about endorsements and membership growth should be considered in the context of statements made by the individuals involved.

Jobs and accountability take centre stage

Muhindo placed economic transformation at the centre of political mobilisation, urging citizens to consider leadership in relation to employment, household incomes and development.

The Baraza provided an opportunity for supporters to discuss Uganda’s political direction and expectations of leaders, particularly regarding economic opportunities and public accountability.

Muhindo expressed confidence in the PLU’s electoral prospects, although the outcome of any future election will depend on voters and the applicable electoral process.

As political organisations engage communities ahead of future elections, the challenge remains translating campaign messages about leadership, stability and development into proposals that address citizens’ priorities.
