Mukono District Local Government leadership has pledged major infrastructure, water, and economic interventions to address long-standing service delivery challenges in Kyampisi Sub-county.
Speaking during a community engagement with residents of Bamutakudde LCI in Ddundu Parish on Friday, District Chairperson Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome, alongside Bamutakudde LCI Chairperson Hon. Solomon Serwanja, revealed that key interventions in road rehabilitation, healthcare upgrades, and youth empowerment projects are set to roll out across the area.
The meeting, led by Hon. Solomon Serwanja, brought together local residents, members of the District Executive Committee, and District Speaker Hon. Asuman Muwumuza Lubowa.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Serwanja highlighted pressing community grievances, including acute water shortages, lack of street lighting, inadequate road networks, and environmental concerns stemming from nearby industrial operations.
Strict Environmental Rules for Factories
Responding to complaints regarding local industrial activities, Hon. Lukooya issued a stern warning to factory proprietors operating in Mukono District against expanding or establishing operations without community consultation.
He emphasized that investors must strictly comply with environmental regulations, including carrying out Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) before launching activities that impact surrounding households.
Road Rehabilitation and Water Relief
On infrastructure, Hon. Lukooya assured residents that the community’s primary road network would receive urgent attention. He noted that culverts have already been delivered to the site and announced that the district is currently repairing its road graders with support from the central government to ensure systematic road maintenance.
Regarding water scarcity, the District Chairperson disclosed that the district plans to deploy its well-drilling machine once maintenance work is finalized, prioritizing Bamutakudde and neighboring villages for new borehole installations.
Healthcare Upgrades & Youth Empowerment
To boost healthcare delivery, the district leadership announced plans to deploy additional medical staff to Health Centre IIIs across the district and consider installing a mini-operating theater to serve Ddundu Parish and surrounding areas.
Hon. Lukooya also outlined economic initiatives aimed at raising household incomes, including:
Greenhouse Farming & Apiaries: District-supported beekeeping and modern agricultural demonstration sites for youth skills development.
Job Centre Registration: Mobilization of local youth through LCI structures to connect them with employment opportunities under the District Job Centre Programme.
Support for Single Mothers: Targeted registration to link vulnerable mothers directly to central and local government poverty-alleviation grants.
He called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to enforce school retention, warning against denying children access to universal primary and secondary education.
