'N70,000 won't even cover transport' – Rufai blasts Tinubu's allowance, backs TUC

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has backed the Trade Union Congress, TUC, for rejecting the N70,000 transport allowance proposal for workers by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during Arise Television's 'Morning Show' on Thursday, Rufai said the allowance is not useful and will not work for workers in Lagos.

He also revealed that a member of his studio staff spends N7,000 daily on transport alone.

According to him, in a month, the worker spends twice the minimum wage just on going to work and coming back.

"I got talking to a member of staff at the studio yesterday, and he confirmed, he spends about 7k on transport every day. In a month, he spends twice the minimum wage on transport," Rufai wrote.

The broadcaster argued that even the N70,000 government is promising will only pay half of the transport cost for a worker who lives on the Mainland and works on the Island.

"Even the government transport subsidy of 70k will be ineffective for a government worker in Lagos that lives on the mainland and works on the island. It would just pay half of the cost of commuting," he added.

DAILY POST reports that TUC on Wednesday rejected the N70,000 allowance, describing it as haphazard and demanding salary increment instead.
