…Emphasizes campus security, Safe Schools Initiative

The National Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Nanchang Peter Timloh, has outlined his vision for Nigerian students, saying student welfare and advocacy will top his list of priorities.
This is just as he emphasised the need for a safe and secure environment on campuses for teaching and learning to take place.
In a statement he endorsed, he said his belief is in student-centred agenda that would promote the welfare, development, unity, security, and educational advancement of Nigerian students.
“My key priorities are: Student Welfare and Advocacy which will make me to champion policies and programmes that will improve the welfare and living conditions of Nigerian students and ensure that their voices are heard at all levels.
“Quality Education and Academic Excellence: I will advocate for improved educational standards, better learning facilities, affordable education, and an environment that enables students to excel academically.
“Campus Security and Safe Schools Initiative: I will strengthen collaboration with relevant security agencies and educational institutions in promoting safe and secure campuses, while creating effective channels for reporting security concerns.
“Scholarships, Grants and Financial Support: This is to facilitate greater access to scholarships, bursaries, grants, and other financial assistance programmes for Nigerian students.
“Digital Skills and Student Empowerment: This will involve the the promotion of digital literacy, entrepreneurship, vocational training, innovation, and other empowerment opportunities that will prepare students for the modern economy.
“Student Representation and Inclusion: We will ensure that students from every region and institution are adequately represented and that their concerns receive meaningful attention in national decision-making.
“Education Financing and NELFUND Awareness: We will create greater awareness of available education financing opportunities and advocate for accessible and transparent student-support programmes.”
Timloh added that he would also not neglect leadership and capacity development of students; he would work to ensure improvement in campus infrastructure; and also ensure constructive government-student engagement and would also promote responsible student activism.
He stressed that his vision is to build a stronger, united, empowered, secure and better-represented Nigerian student community, where every student has access to quality education, opportunities, welfare, and a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their future.
Timloh, a product of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, served as the Public Relations Officer of the Student Union Government (SUG) and also served as Vice President, External Affairs, National Association of Polytechnic Students.
He opined that the experiences he has gathered in his previous positions have prepared him for the current dispensation.
