The Uganda Police Force has arrested a police officer attached to Ndejje Police Station following the fatal shooting of a boda boda rider in Ndejje Kanaaba, within Katwe Police Division.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. during a National Cleaning Day community exercise.
According to police, officers from Ndejje Police Station had been deployed to provide security during the exercise when the boda boda rider allegedly attempted to force his way through a secured area while riding his motorcycle.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
The rider was allegedly shot by Police Constable Allan Okello, who is attached to Ndejje Police Station. Okello has since been arrested as investigations continue to establish the circumstances under which he discharged his firearm.
The shooting resulted in the death of the rider, who police have preliminarily identified through a National Identification Card as Kizito Ronald Jjuuko, 38.
The Uganda Police Force said investigations will establish the circumstances under which the firearm was discharged and whether the use of force was lawful, necessary and proportionate.
“While police officers are legally mandated to maintain public order and protect life and property, any use of force must be lawful, necessary, proportionate, and strictly guided by the law, established police operational procedures, and the prevailing circumstances,” the force said.
Police expressed condolences to Jjuuko’s family, relatives and friends as investigations into the incident continue.
