France head coach, Zinedine Zidane, has said the players will remain the main protagonists of his team as he prepares for his first match in charge.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of France’s Nations League clash with Turkey on Friday, Zidane said he would take a back seat and allow the players to take centre stage.
France will open their Nations League campaign against Turkey at Kocaeli Stadium on Friday, marking Zidane’s first match as head coach following Didier Deschamps’ 14-year tenure.
“After 14 years of Didier, this is new. But the protagonists are the players. I’m going to stay in my role,” Zidane said.
“I feel a huge emotion to be able to be here as a coach, maybe even more than before my first game as a player.”
