NNEWI — The Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Anambra State chapter has inaugurated its Ayamelum Local Government Area secretariat in Omor as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the establishment of functional local government secretariats was part of its commitment to ensuring effective engagement with communities across the state.
Addressing party members during the inauguration, the factional NDC State Chairman, David Patrick Chukwudifu, said political power ultimately resided with the people.
Chukwudifu commended the turnout of party members and urged prospective NDC candidates in the local government area to work closely with the Ayamelum LGA executive committee and the 11 ward chairmen.
He said the existing leadership structures were recognised by the party hierarchy and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, warning that bypassing established structures could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
The event brought together state and local party leaders, members of the youth wing and community stakeholders to discuss ways of taking the party’s activities and message to the grassroots.
Earlier, the NDC Chairman in Ayamelum LGA, Nwakobi Felix Emenike, commended the state executive committee for what he described as its steadfastness and unity of purpose.
Emenike expressed appreciation to the state executive leadership for its support, saying the inauguration demonstrated the party’s commitment to strengthening its presence at the grassroots.
He said, “The presence of our state chairman, David Patrick Chukwudifu, and members of the state executive committee underscores our shared commitment to ensuring that no grassroots community is left behind.”
Emenike expressed optimism that the party would make significant gains across the 11 wards in Ayamelum LGA.
The NDC Secretary in Ayamelum LGA, Patricia Obiora, commended the youth-driven approach of the Chukwudifu-led state executive, saying political engagement had evolved beyond rhetoric to strategic organisation.
She said the party’s structure in Anambra was moving in the right direction.
Also, the NDC Ayamelum LGA Woman Leader, Egodi Emeka, passed a vote of confidence in the state executive, highlighting what she described as its inclusion of women in key party positions and plans.
The LGA Youth Leader, Okafor Ifesinachi, commended the council leadership and urged the state executive to sustain efforts to build a strong party structure across Anambra.
The Coordinator of the NDC Youth Wing in Anambra State, Chukwuma Ezenwanko, called for unity among party members, urging the state and local executives to remain focused ahead of future electoral contests.
The inauguration was attended by the NDC State Publicity Secretary, Chief Onyiuke, members of the State Working Committee and regional party delegates.
