The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Borno State has withdrawn the dismissal notice issued against its House of Assembly candidate, Mohammed Bunu, over allegations that he campaigned for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The party announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday by its State Publicity Secretary, Aliyu Balarabe, following an investigation by a reconciliation committee.
Balarabe said the seven-member committee was constituted on October 25, 2026, to investigate the allegations and give Bunu a fair hearing.
He said the committee examined reports from Hausari Ward and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council structures and heard from Bunu before concluding that the allegations were not established.
The controversy followed a dismissal notice dated October 25, which accused Bunu of conduct allegedly inconsistent with the NDC’s constitution and disciplinary rules.
The notice concerned campaign materials bearing the ADC logo, the slogan “Sabon Tafiya, Sabon Salo” and photographs and names of Atiku and Bunu.
Balarabe said the party’s constitution provides that only the national convention has the authority to confirm the expulsion of a member.
He added that the earlier dismissal notice against Bunu had been formally withdrawn and that he remained a recognised member of the party.
