Alhamdulillah, the security situation is improving. Most of what we discussed will not be disclosed because they are security matters, but certainly, the safe release of the Lassa and Musa schoolchildren and the Biu travellers is my priority for now.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Senator also raised the strategic importance of major roads linking Borno South, including the Gombe–Biu and Damboa–Maiduguri roads, noting that he has consistently advocated their construction and improvement because of their importance to security, commerce and the movement of people.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ndume, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, also welcomed the recent salary increase for military personnel approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as an important step towards improving the welfare and motivation of members of the Armed Forces.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the improved welfare of personnel would complement the sacrifices being made by troops in securing communities across the country.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, Major General Ajose (ACF) has expressed concern over what it describes as worsening insecurity across the country and the Federal Government’s inadequate response to the situation.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the Forum said the armed non-state actors have continued to attack communities, abduct citizens and disrupt livelihoods, while political office holders appeared increasingly focused on the 2027 general elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>ACF cited reported attacks and abductions in Zamfara, Benue, Katsina, Kogi, and Niger states, as well as the abduction of prospective National Youth Service Corps members in Imo State.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>It criticised President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Anniversary address, saying insecurity received only brief mention.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Independence Anniversary address to Nigeria, prosaically delivered, made only a single, fleeting mention of insecurity, as if just a grudging and irritating footnote. This is very telling. Scores of children remain in the hands of terrorists in Borno, Kwara and other states, although those abducted in Oyo State at the same time (as those of Borno) have since been rescued and reunited with their families,” the group said.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“Many other hapless citizens are and continue to be hoarded into the bush and held in captivity under horrendous conditions. In the penultimate week, there were disturbing attacks by terror gangs on defenceless communities in Zamfara State, where five different incidents were recorded on a single day with, as sadly usual, lives lost and scores of people abducted and property looted. Indeed, on an almost daily basis, the attacks occur at different locations in Zamfara State, as if the State has become a killing field.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“In Plateau State, sporadic armed attacks and killings by gangs punctuate daily lives. On the Mambila Plateau and other locations in Taraba State, grim news of deaths, injuries and destruction has become commonplace.”\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>It called on political office holders to prioritise the protection of citizens over electioneering campaigns, warning that continued violence poses a serious threat to communities and national stability.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“In contrast, elected officials and other politically exposed stakeholders seem more concerned and obsessed with the forthcoming 2027 elections. Delivering governance has become a far distant priority. How? If you have done crusade there with the power you claim you have, till tomorrow Boko Haram will still be attacking people, killing people. Adebayo said rising kidnappings, banditry and other forms […]\nThe post 2027: Insecurity, economy threaten Tinubu’s re-election — Adebayo appeared first on Vanguard News.","\u003Cimg width=\"747\" height=\"616\" src=\"https:\u002F\u002Fcdn.vanguardngr.com\u002Fwp-content\u002Fuploads\u002F2026\u002F09\u002Ftinubu-.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"2027: Insecurity, economy threaten Tinubu’s re-election — Adebayo\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\u002F\u002Fcdn.vanguardngr.com\u002Fwp-content\u002Fuploads\u002F2026\u002F09\u002Ftinubu-.png 747w, https:\u002F\u002Fcdn.vanguardngr.com\u002Fwp-content\u002Fuploads\u002F2026\u002F09\u002Ftinubu--300x247.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 747px) 100vw, 747px\" \u002F>\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Luminous Jannamike\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ABUJA – The worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria could provide the opposition with a potent weapon against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, Head of the Directorate of Media and Communications, Adewole Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign, Comrade Mark Adebayo, has said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adebayo said rising kidnappings, banditry and other forms of violence could discourage voters, disrupt campaigns and deepen public dissatisfaction with the government ahead of the elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Abuja, he blamed the worsening security situation on what he described as uncoordinated counter-terrorism strategies, alleged military corruption and the administration’s disconnect from communities affected by violence.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The political implications of Nigeria’s worsening security situation ahead of the 2027 general elections are profound, primarily threatening President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid and undermining state legitimacy,” Adebayo said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said insecurity could particularly suppress turnout in badly affected areas, including parts of the North-West, while restricting campaign movements and compromising electoral infrastructure.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Widespread insecurity, particularly mass abductions and regional banditry, risks driving massive voter apathy, suppressing turnout in highly affected zones like the North-West, and triggering critical regional voter realignments,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adebayo also criticised the administration’s approach to tackling insecurity, alleging that its centralised security structure had remained slow and overstretched.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The Tinubu administration is faltering due to uncoordinated counter-terrorism strategies, alleged military corruption, and a perceived disconnect from grassroots realities,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the crisis could become a major campaign issue for opposition parties because of its impact on agriculture, food prices and livelihoods.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“For the opposition, the security crisis provides a powerful campaign weapon to dismantle the ruling All Progressives Congress narrative of progressive governance,” Adebayo said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He, however, said opposition parties would still have to do more to convert public discontent into electoral gains in 2027.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“With an aggressive campaign methodology by the leading opposition candidates, insecurity is one area plus the terrible state of the economy that can assist the opposition to unseat the Tinubu government because it is very unpopular due to its massive failures on security and the economy. Delivering governance has become a far distant priority.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Both scenarios are utterly as disheartening as they are frightening because they strike at the very foundation and pose definite existential threat to Nigeria.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The statement explained, “President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Independence Anniversary address to Nigeria, practically delivered, made only a single, fleeting mention of insecurity, as if just a grudging and irritating footnote. This is very telling.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Scores of children remain in the hands of terrorists in Borno, Kwara and other states, although those abducted in Oyo State at the same time (as those of Borno) have since been rescued and reunited with their families.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The National Publicity Secretary stated that many other hapless citizens are and continue to be hoarded into the bush and held in captivity under horrendous conditions, stressing that penultimate week, there were disturbing attacks by terror gangs on defenceless communities in Zamfara State, where five different incidents were recorded on a single day, with, as sadly usual, lives lost and scores of people abducted, and property looted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Indeed, on an almost daily basis, the attacks occur at different locations in Zamfara State on daily basis, as if the state has become a killing field.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“In Plateau State sporadic armed attacks and killings by gangs punctuate daily lives. On the Mambila Plateau and other locations in Taraba State, grim news of deaths, injuries and destruction have become commonplace.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Muhammad-Baba stated that the tragic scenario is repeated in other states such as Benue, Niger, Katsina, Kogi and other locations, lamenting that on the rise are news of abductions, kidnappings, killings and ransom demands in Chikun Local Government Area and other locations in or bordering Kaduna City metropolis.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It said that in Imo State, prospective corps members travelling to report to camp were abducted and are still being held (as of the time of this release).\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>ACF asked, “Given the above, two logical questions come to mind. First, how much more senseless violence, abductions and bloodshed need to be experienced to elicit appropriate action from those responsible for the protection, security, wellbeing and welfare of citizens? Second, and most critically, when will political office holders prioritise security over political election or re-election concerns?”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>ACF, therefore, called on attention to the deteriorating state of security in Arewa communities and elsewhere in Nigeria, saying that every new incident of insecurity should be one too many, as time is fast running out, electioneering campaigns must give way to action over insecurity.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Without equivocation ACF insists that now is the time to stop the politics and end the killings,” the statement
