NECO disowns fake recruitment portals, warns teachers against paying fraudsters

The National Examinations Council, NECO, has alerted the public to the activities of fraudsters operating fake online recruitment portals designed to deceive teachers seeking appointment as examination supervisors for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, Internal.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the examination body warned members of the public, particularly teachers, to disregard websites demanding payments or personal details under the guise of recruiting supervisors.

According to the council, the fraudulent portals have been requesting applicants to upload academic credentials and make payments before being considered for appointment, a practice NECO described as false, illegal and unauthorised.

“NECO wishes to inform the public that the Council does not request any payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors in the forthcoming 2026 SSCE Internal,” the statement said.

The council explained that it has introduced a fully electronic recruitment system for supervisors and assistant supervisors, replacing the old analogue process in line with recommendations of the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria.

NECO said the new digital platform is aimed at strengthening the integrity of examination supervision, eliminating fraudulent practices and enhancing transparency in the selection process.

The examination body directed all eligible teachers interested in serving as supervisors to apply only through its official recruitment portal, https://supervisor.neco.gov.ng⁠, stressing that the process is entirely automated and does not involve any intermediary or third party.

To qualify, applicants must be pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above and must be at least 30 years old.

NECO noted that the transition to an electronic recruitment process would not only curb fraud but also help reduce examination malpractice while ensuring fairness and credibility in the appointment of supervisors across the country.

The council disclosed that no fewer than 22,000 supervisors would be recruited to oversee the smooth conduct of the 2026 SSCE Internal Examination, scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of online scams targeting job seekers and public-sector recruitment exercises.

NECO urged prospective applicants and the general public to remain vigilant and rely solely on information published through its official channels to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
