Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State says negative public perceptions of the military and other security agencies sometimes discourage young people from joining the services.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soludo spoke on Friday at the memorial service for the late Lt.-Gen. Chikadibia Obiakor (rtd.) at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the exemplary lives of officers such as Obiakor could inspire younger generations to embrace military service and other forms of national service.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor urged community leaders and elders to maintain close relationships with their people and serve as role models for younger generations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We must multitask and become the villager as a way of inspiring and motivating the younger ones,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soludo described Obiakor as an illustrious son of Anambra whose distinguished military career and international peacekeeping service brought honour to Nigeria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We have come to celebrate the life of one of our best,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the late general as “Anambra’s export to Nigeria and the world”, noting his global service in promoting peace and maintaining law and order.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Soludo stressed that an individual’s greatest achievement lay in the positive impact made on their immediate community.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The impact on the community is the most important impact; his people were able to testify that he was good,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, expressed condolences to the Obiakor family and joined people of Anambra and Nigeria in mourning the late officer.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oluyede was represented by Maj.-Gen. to torture and US lawmakers from both parties slamming the move.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nidal Hasan’s execution — which is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, member of US President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, said he supported executing Hasan but that “livestreaming executions is what jihadists do. on official Pentagon X accounts.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“I kind of like the mentality we had in World War II, which was win, which was understand when the enemy attacks you, you need to stand your ground,” Hegseth said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last US military execution was carried out in 1961, when John Bennett was hanged for rape and attempted murder.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Death Penalty Information Center says that 135 soldiers have been executed by the US military since 1916.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to rights group Amnesty International, at least 17 public executions are known to have been carried out in 2025 — six in Afghanistan and 11 in Iran.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amnesty’s Justin Mazzola said Friday that the death penalty is “a violation of human rights,” and that streaming solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force at this difficult time and honoured the service and sacrifice of those who lost their lives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>DAILY POST reported that a NAF aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5, 2026, killing 25 personnel.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu subsequently declared three days of national mourning in honour of
