Niger State accounts for 1,055 kilometres of the 5,500 kilometres of new and ongoing federal road projects being executed nationwide under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Governor Umaru Bago, who represented President Tinubu at the ceremony, performed the flag-off of the project, which is expected to improve road connectivity, facilitate trade and boost economic activities across the country.

Representing the President, Governor Bago thanked the Federal Government for approving major road projects in Niger State, describing the highway as a strategic intervention that would connect communities and ease the movement of people and goods.

He expressed confidence that the project would improve transportation, enhance access to markets and stimulate economic activities across the state and beyond.

Bago also pledged to mobilise the highest number of votes nationwide for President Tinubu in the next election, citing the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments in Niger State.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed that Niger State accounts for 1,055 kilometres of the 5,500 kilometres of new and ongoing federal road projects being executed nationwide.

Umahi made this known during the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora Federal Highway in Bida, Niger State.

He described the highway as a major component of the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure development programme, noting that its scale, reinforced concrete pavement technology and the involvement of the Dangote Group through the Federal Government’s infrastructure tax-credit scheme could make it the administration’s fifth legacy road project.

The minister disclosed that 162 kilometres of roads and 115 metres of bridges had been completed in the North-Central region.

He commended Governor Bago for his commitment to infrastructure development, stating that the governor had constructed more than 300 kilometres of roads, over five flyovers and an underpass in Niger State.

Umahi said the governor’s approach to road construction demonstrated a commitment to development, regardless of whether a road fell under federal or state government responsibility.

Also speaking, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues in the Federal Executive Council, said he was delighted to witness the impact of President Tinubu’s reforms on infrastructure development in Niger State.

Idris disclosed that the Federal Government was investing a total of 1.8 trillion naira in the road project, describing the intervention as a major step towards stimulating economic activities across the state.

He said the project would extend from Mokwa through Lambata and beyond Kontagora towards Tegina, opening up communities and strengthening economic connections across the state.

The minister noted that Niger State had never witnessed such a massive infrastructure development initiative, attributing the projects to policy decisions taken by President Tinubu.

Idris thanked the President on behalf of the people of Niger State for approving the projects, expressing confidence that the investments would attract significant electoral support for the President in the next election.

He maintained that the scale of the infrastructure projects demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to development, particularly in Niger State.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the President of the Dangote Group, Mansir Ahmed, said the company was pleased to participate in the project through the infrastructure tax-credit scheme.

Ahmed explained that the highway would be constructed using concrete pavement rather than conventional asphalt, adding that work would commence from four different locations to accelerate construction and ensure timely delivery.

He said the completed highway would facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, commercial goods and industrial materials while creating economic opportunities for businesses and young people.

The project is expected to reduce travel delays, improve road safety and enhance access to markets for farming communities and businesses along the corridor.
