The Niger State Government has cancelled the APC political rally scheduled to hold this Saturday in Minna, the state capital.

The cancellation follows the death of 37 persons who were reportedly being held in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Umaru Bago expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

The governor also declared a three-day mourning period in honour of the victims.

The state government says the decision to cancel the rally is in view of the unfortunate incident and out of respect for the deceased and their families.

The cancelled APC rally was expected to take place in Minna this weekend as part of the party’s political activities in the state.

The government has also ordered relevant authorities to take necessary steps regarding the incident.
