The Working People United, WoPU, a coalition of workers, professionals, and artisans, has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the most viable candidate for Nigerians in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists after the 66th Independence Thanksgiving Service held at Living Faith Church, Asaba, which was attended by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other Delta State government functionaries, WoPU’s Coordinator-General, Comrade, Prince Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, commended the President’s leadership over the past three and a half years and said there is hope for Nigeria.
He described Tinubu’s administration as bold and courageous in confronting challenges that previous governments had avoided.
Akporeha stressed that among the current contenders, only President Tinubu has demonstrated the vision and capacity to restore Nigeria’s greatness and build on the foundation laid by Nigeria’s founding fathers.
He urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to look beyond political distractions and acknowledge the progress already being made.
“Although President Tinubu inherited a collapsing country, he has shown the boldness to revive the dying economy so it can grow again and yield prosperity,” Akporeha said.
WoPU highlighted several key policies of the administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies, which it argues has freed up funds for grassroots development; the establishment of Nigeria’s first private refinery; efforts to ensure steady petroleum supply nationwide despite global hostilities; and advocacy for state police and resource control, which WoPU believes will strengthen security, reduce corruption, and promote equitable development.
The coalition noted that the floating of the naira has enhanced Nigeria’s export competitiveness, attracted foreign investment, and reduced reliance on volatile oil revenues, credentials it believes set President Tinubu apart from his opponents.
Akporeha, the immediate past President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), further emphasised that Tinubu is not motivated by personal wealth or power but by national progress.
“As Nigeria attained its 66th year after independence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the kind of leader who knows about power and how to use it for the good of all.
“As a leader who has zero tolerance for religious bigotry and insecurity, he has moved up Nigeria’s resources and surely has the will to finish the job he started meritoriously,” he noted.
As part of its strategy, WoPU announced plans to embark on mass sensitisation campaigns nationwide, targeting workers and young Nigerians to mobilise support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akporeha concluded that steering Nigeria through its current challenges requires resilience and tenacity, qualities he believes Tinubu embodies, with a proven track record in both private enterprise and public service.
“The greatness of Nigeria is here,” Akporeha concluded.
