Nigeria ‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌at 66: Our hope must remain alive – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to keep the hope alive in spite of the present challenges, saying the future of Nigeria is bright.

PDP National Publicity Secretary Mr Jungudo Mohammed stated this in a statement issued by the party to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday in Abuja.

Mohammed said that the PDP acknowledged that, as a nation and as a people, Nigeria and Nigerians were not yet where they aspired to be; however, they must not despair.

“The future of Nigeria remains bright, and our collective hope must remain stronger than our present challenges.

“Nigeria is a blessed nation, endowed with enormous human and natural resources.

“Let us harness these resources, alongside our rich ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, into an instrument of unity, creativity and national progress,” he said.

Mohammed called on all Nigerians to continue to preach peace, unity and national cohesion.

He also called on leaders and followers alike to remain patriotic, reject violence and corruption, and always place the interests of Nigeria above personal and sectional considerations.

“Above all, let us build a nation where our young people can dream, aspire and look to the future with confidence and hope,” he said.

The national publicity secretary pledged the PDP’s continued commitment to democracy, good governance and the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“We are poised to provide the alternative platform and leadership needed to help Nigeria realise her full potential and achieve the dreams and aspirations of her citizens.

“As we celebrate our nation, let us honour the sacrifices of our founding fathers and all those who have contributed to our national development, and ensure that the labour of our heroes past shall not be in vain.

“Together, let us renew our commitment to building a better Nigeria and restoring hope for the younger generations.

“Nigeria has what it takes to rise! Nigeria shall be great!” Mohammed said. (NAN)
