Nigeria doesn’t need trial-and-error economics – Sambo

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Arise Television Director of News/Politics Editor, Sumner Sambo, says Nigeria does not need trial-and-error economics but political restructuring that would improve the lives of every citizen.

Sambo made this assertion on Wednesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.

He said Nigeria had undergone enough economic experiments, lamenting that citizens, especially the poor, were suffering because there had been no reform of the systems of governance.

“Nigeria has had enough economic experiments (trial-and-error) that have been ongoing. What we need now is political restructuring.

“Nigerians are suffering so much because we haven’t even reformed the systems of governance. So, I’m thinking it’s time for us to revisit political reforms.

“Tinubu has done very well. If he gets a second term, we need political reforms. The cost of governance is so high; the divide between those being governed and those in government is just extremely wide.

“Now, look at the statistics and look at the visions that we’ve had. For example, take a look at Vision 2010 that Abacha put in place. Beautiful plans and all of that.

“It had the economy, politics, governance and all of that wielded together to actually drive it. But unfortunately, that could not be clinically implemented because Abacha died at the time.

“Can our politicians actually go back to that document? Because there are some things there that are actually very good. It was a carryover of the development plans that we had in the ’70s, and then, of course, taking a look at even some things like how to take out-of-school children from the streets.

“I think if we have political restructuring, it will reduce the cost of governance,” he said.
