Nigeria govt grants permanent licence to Abuja private university after 3-year probation

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Federal Government, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), has granted a permanent operational licence to a private university in Abuja.

Abdullahi Ribadu, Executive Secretary of the NUC, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

Ribadu urged the institution, known as Cosmopolitan University, to maintain high academic standards following its receipt of the permanent operational licence.

He said the commission was satisfied with the progress recorded by the university during its three-year probationary period, which culminated in the award of the permanent licence.

“During your probationary period, you were judged, you were monitored, because it’s like you took an exam, actually,” he said.

“A committee went to verify your processes, your students, your staff and everything. The idea was either to recommend a full licence for you or withdraw the existing one because something has to happen after three years.

“So, after three years, you either graduate to get the full licence or you don’t. But of course, in some cases, not all of you who were examined passed.”

He added that the institution was among the 37 private universities granted licences by the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
