‘Nigeria has suffered setbacks under APC since 2015’ — Dickson

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has accused the APC-led government of setting Nigeria back since 2015, declaring that his party is targeting victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Dickson called on Nigerian youths to mobilise nationwide for NDC candidates, saying the party also aims to secure a majority in the National Assembly.

He spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving members of The Dickson Movement for Democracy, led by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Ogbidi, who adopted him as the group’s Grand Patron.

The former Bayelsa State governor said the country needed a new direction to tackle insecurity, poverty, unemployment and economic hardship, which he blamed on years of setbacks under the ruling party.

“The ticket of the NDC is a ticket of restoration of our country,” Dickson declared.

He said the NDC wants to win the presidency on the first ballot and secure enough seats in the National Assembly to pursue its reform agenda.

“The presidential election is very important to us. All elections are important. We want to win the presidency on the first ballot. We also want to win a majority of seats in the National Assembly, where our president and vice president can run the government of reform and transformation,” he said.

Dickson described the 2027 election as a referendum on the incumbent government and urged young Nigerians to reject vote-buying and intimidation while protecting their votes.

“We are not for violence. We are not for abuses,” he said, urging supporters to focus on the party’s policies rather than personal attacks.
