Nigeria has met its OPEC crude oil production quota for the fifth consecutive month, with daily production peaking at 1.84 million barrels in September 2026.
Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) showed that the country produced an average of more than 1.71 million barrels of crude oil and condensate per day in September, representing a 2.34 per cent increase compared with the previous month.
The data also showed that daily production peaked at 1.84 million barrels during the month, as Nigeria consolidated its position as Africa’s largest crude oil producer. The lowest daily production recorded during the month was 1.68 million barrels.
In terms of crude oil alone, excluding condensate, Nigeria produced an average of 1.53 million barrels per day in September. This represented 102 per cent of the 1.5 million barrels per day quota set by OPEC.
A breakdown of the figures showed that Nigeria had met its assigned OPEC quota for five consecutive months, producing 1.53 million barrels per day in May, 1.55 million barrels per day in June, 1.51 million barrels per day in July, 1.5 million barrels per day in August and 1.53 million barrels per day in September.
The NUPRC attributed the improved performance to stable production operations across most producing assets and the absence of any major pipeline outages during the period under review.
According to the commission, the sustained growth recorded in September reflected the continued commitment of operators and industry stakeholders to improving operational efficiency, maintaining asset integrity and enhancing production reliability across Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.
