Nigerian newspapers review: Factors that’ll decide Adeleke, Oyebamiji, Salaam, others’ fates

Vanguard Nigeria about 1 hour 2 mins read

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the factors that will decide the fates of the candidates for the governorship election in Osun State scheduled for August 15.

Another headline features President Bola Tinubu saying he would ensure Nigeria’s refineries are revived during his administration.

Vanguard also reports that the Federal Government said it had yet to receive a request from South Africa over repatriation costs following xenophobic attacks in the country.

Moving to another newspaper, The Guardian reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) stepped up measures to disrupt suspected terrorism financing networks in Nigeria, directing capital market operators to freeze assets linked to six individuals and three entities placed on the Nigeria Sanctions List.

The Punch reports that the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, picked former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Lastly, The Nation leads with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) assuring that the governorship election in Osun State will be free, fair and transparent.
