In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard’s lead headline states that only six banks paid N1.27 trillion in dividends despite declaring huge profits.

Another headline features the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) saying it had cleared 5,000 complaints in five days.

Vanguard also reports that the Debt Management Office (DMO) said Nigeria spent N3.1 trillion on domestic debt servicing in the first quarter of 2026.

Moving to another newspaper, The Guardian reports that insecurity and low return on investment are dragging 18 states back from digital access and connectivity.

The Punch leads with the Presidency tackling former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s claim that the reported 5,091 Nigerians killed in violent incidents over three months was an indictment on President Bola Tinubu’s government, insisting that security agencies had in the same window killed more than 13,000 terrorists and rescued thousands more Nigerians from captivity.

Lastly, The Nation leads with Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule saying President Bola Tinubu “took the bullet” for states and local councils in terms of fuel subsidy removal.
