Nigeria’s crude oil production, excluding condensate, fell by 37,000 barrels per day, bpd, to 1.546 million bpd in July 2026, from 1.583 million bpd in June, according to the latest report by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.

The decline, based on secondary sources cited by OPEC, represents a 2.3 per cent month-on-month reduction in the country’s crude oil output.

The figures were contained in OPEC’s latest Monthly Oil Market Report, which showed that Nigeria remained one of Africa’s major crude oil producers despite the July decline.

OPEC’s data showed that Nigeria’s production rose from an average of 1.453 million bpd in the first quarter of 2026 to 1.552 million bpd in the second quarter.

Production averaged 1.554 million bpd in May before increasing to 1.583 million bpd in June, its highest monthly level during the period under review, before falling to 1.546 million bpd in July.

However, production figures reported through direct communication by OPEC member countries showed an even sharper decline.

Under the direct communication data, Nigeria’s output fell by 50,000 bpd, from 1.555 million bpd in June to 1.505 million bpd in July 2026.

At the wider OPEC level, crude oil production based on secondary sources increased by 1.659 million bpd to 23.632 million bpd in July, from 21.973 million bpd in June.

The increase was driven largely by higher production from Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which recorded monthly increases of 665,000 bpd, 590,000 bpd and 393,000 bpd, respectively.

Total crude oil production by the OPEC Declaration of Cooperation, DoC, countries, comprising OPEC members and participating non-OPEC producers, averaged 37.655 million bpd in July, up by 1.424 million bpd from 36.232 million bpd in June.

Non-OPEC DoC producers, however, recorded a decline of 235,000 bpd, with total output falling from 14.259 million bpd in June to 14.024 million bpd in July.

Also, in its latest report, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, said Nigeria’s daily oil production, including condensate, declined by four per cent in July 2026, falling to 1.67 million bpd from 1.74 million bpd recorded in June 2026.

According to NUPRC data, the country produced 1.505 million bpd of crude oil and 0.17 million bpd of condensate during the month, bringing total daily production to 1.67 million bpd.

Daily combined crude oil and condensate production peaked at 1.78 million bpd during the month, while the lowest output stood at 1.57 million bpd.

NUPRC attributed the July decline to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields, which affected production during the period under review.

The regulator said the disruptions constrained production volumes and contributed significantly to the reduction in national output.
