violations involving foreign nationals who remained in the country after the expiration of their temporary work permits.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Plateau State Comptroller of the NIS, CIS Mary Abang, disclosed this on Thursday during a courtesy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Abang said the command had intensified migration enforcement through the profiling, apprehension and repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals, while also expanding intelligence-based surveillance across the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>She appealed to the state government to assist the command with a permanent headquarters, operational vehicles and motorcycles to enhance patrols, especially in remote communities and mining locations where undocumented migrants are often found.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We appeal for logistics, particularly motorcycles, to enable our officers to access remote mining areas,” she said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The comptroller revealed that some foreign nationals entered Plateau State with temporary work permits valid for 30 days but remained illegally in the country for more than a year after their permits expired.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We have discovered instances where some foreign nationals entered the state on temporary work permits valid for only 30 days but remained illegally for over a year after their permits had expired,” Abang said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>She commended Governor Mutfwang for his support towards security agencies in the state, describing his administration’s policies as beneficial to security operations in Plateau.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Responding, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the NIS in the areas of border management, intelligence gathering and internal security.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The governor described the Immigration Service as a critical institution responsible for safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, adding that effective migration management had become increasingly important in tackling transnational crimes and emerging security challenges.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“It is the responsibility of government, through the appropriate agencies, to protect the sovereignty of Nigeria and guarantee the security of lives and property,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Mutfwang pledged the support of the state government and people of Plateau to enhance the effectiveness of the NIS in carrying out its constitutional mandate.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He stressed the importance of stronger intelligence sharing between the state government and the Immigration Service, particularly at the grassroots level.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The governor urged immigration officers deployed across the 17 local government areas of the state to remain vigilant and work closely with other security Later that night, they returned and attempted to remove equipment from the premises. She immediately raised the alarm, prompting the Plant Manager to mobilise residents, who apprehended the suspects and handed them over to soldiers at a nearby military checkpoint for preliminary investigation,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Dakat said further investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly connected to the theft of two 200KVA step-down transformers at the agency’s Raw Water Intake Site and the vandalism of a 500KVA transformer at the Shendam Water Treatment Plant.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He added that the suspects had also led investigators to locations where some stolen equipment was allegedly sold, noting that investigations were ongoing at the Shendam Police Division to identify other members of the suspected syndicate and their accomplices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We believe this is an organised cartel that has been operating for some time. If we don’t look at it that way, we will be making a grave mistake,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the security threats confronting the country were aimed at destabilising Nigeria and required a stronger response from security forces.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“What we are confronting today is an existential threat to the sovereignty of Nigeria. Whether it is in the North-East, the North-West or the North-Central, we are dealing with people who want to destabilise the country, and we cannot afford to allow that,” Mutfwang said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The governor commended Major General Oyinlola for his leadership during his 18-month tenure, noting that Plateau had continued to attract investors, tourists and visitors despite security challenges.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“There were difficult moments, but we also recorded significant successes, both kinetic and non-kinetic. If not for your leadership and commitment, those who sought to destabilise Plateau would have achieved their aim,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Mutfwang assured the incoming GOC of the state government’s continued support and urged him to build on the achievements of his predecessor while strengthening civil-military relations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Earlier, Oyinlola disclosed that although the 3 Division has responsibility for Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states, about 95 per cent of his attention during his 18-month tenure was devoted to Plateau due to its peculiar security challenges.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“I can assure you that 95 per cent of my 18 months in command was devoted to issues in Plateau State. When the driver arrived at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel, he contacted her to collect the package.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Her brother reportedly took her to the park on a motorcycle. After collecting the items, they were heading home when the crash occurred.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the source, as they approached the Police Officers’ Mess and were about to turn into the New GRA area, the Sharon bus hit the motorcycle and sped off.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Rebecca was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother sustained injuries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A First Information Report obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command, showed that the crash occurred at about 5:15 pm on July 14, 2026, and was reported five minutes later.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at about 5:30 p.m., recording a response time of 10 minutes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It identified the motorcycle involved as a Jincheng motorcycle with registration number TFB-38-QB, used for private purposes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The FRSC said two adults, a male and a female, were involved in the crash. Kabiru Musa, sentenced the defendant to 15 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine for the offence of incest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>For the offence of criminal intimidation, the court sentenced Sylvester to 10 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N250,000 fine, whilst for the offence of assault, the court sentenced the defendant to five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The court, explaining that the sentences shall run consecutively, further pronounced that the defendant has the constitutional right of appeal against the judgment to the High Court of Adamawa State within the next 30 days.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judge said the most disturbing part of the case was the testimony of the victim that the defendant habitually intimidated and forced her into sexual intercourse whenever he desired.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Having carefully considered the statement of complaint, the unequivocal plea of guilty entered by the defendant, the oral testimony of the victim in corroboration thereof, and the entire record before the court, I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved the offences charged beyond reasonable doubt as required by law,” the judge said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“A plea of guilty, once voluntarily made and corroborated where necessary, constitutes the strongest evidence against an accused person. state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The coalition described his arrest and continued detention as political persecution, arguing that the use of security agencies and the judiciary against citizens for expressing their views undermines democracy, freedom of expression and constitutional rights.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It expressed concern that while many communities in Katsina continue to face deadly bandit attacks, displacement and insecurity, government attention appeared to be directed at silencing those who criticise its response.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The government should be confronting the criminals terrorising our communities, not persecuting citizens who speak out on behalf of victims,” the statement said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The CNG further alleged that efforts were being made to keep Kurfi in detention through what it described as fabricated charges and a manipulated judicial process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The coalition also raised concerns over the proposed establishment of state police, warning that security institutions could be vulnerable to political interference if adequate safeguards are not put in place.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It maintained that criticism of government policies and demands for accountability should not be criminalised, insisting that citizens have a constitutional right According to him, the initiative, organised by the state government in collaboration with the NANAS Foundation, founded by the wife of Governor Nasir Idris, is open to all qualified indigenes irrespective of their ethnic or religious background.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Argungu disclosed that each groom will receive ₦250,000 as dowry in line with Islamic law, while all intending couples will undergo compulsory medical screening to assess their health status and compatibility before the marriage ceremony.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He added that local government committees have been directed to confirm that every groom has a reliable means of livelihood capable of supporting a family.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The mass wedding is scheduled to take place in Birnin Kebbi and will be attended by Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics and other dignitaries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He further revealed that the NANAS Foundation will provide the newlyweds with beds, mattresses, food items and other household essentials to help them begin married life.
