NNPCL N11.2tn pipeline pecurity spending: Oil sector allocation under Tinubu dwarfs defence – Atiku

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has said that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allocation to the oil sector dwarfs that of defence and security in the country.

In a statement on Sunday, Atiku, through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, questioned the spending by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Atiku questioned why the N11.2tn NNPCL security spending is more than three times the defence allocation in 2025, which stood at N3.1tn.

He demanded a detailed explanation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s N11.2tn spending as contained in its 2025 financial records.

According to Atiku, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration should, with immediate effect, furnish Nigerians with details of the N11.2tn spending on pipeline surveillance and security.

“Its 2025 accounts now show approximately N11.2 trillion in other receivables from the Federation. Nigerians cannot tell from these totals what was spent on pipeline surveillance. What was paid? Who was paid? For what work? Where are the results?” Atiku asked.

“These figures belong to different accounting categories, but their contrast is stark: under Tinubu, sums tied to the oil sector dwarf the resources allocated to defend the country. That is a damning measure of this administration’s priorities,” he added.
