No opposition candidate is sure of contesting in 2027 election yet – Galadima

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

With less than 100 days to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the country is yet to experience the usual election fever, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Buba Galadima, has observed.

Galadima made the observation in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, where he expressed concern over what he described as an unusually quiet political atmosphere ahead of the elections.

He said the situation was particularly unusual because politicians outside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were, according to him, uncertain about their chances of remaining in the race.

“We are only 100 days away from the general election, yet the election fever has not caught the country at all.”

Galadima alleged that several political actors were facing constraints that could affect their participation in the 2027 elections.

“I don’t think there is any candidate outside APC that is sure of contesting this election.”

The NDC chieftain further alleged that the APC was deploying political and financial resources to persuade some opposition candidates to withdraw from the race.

He claimed that some state assembly candidates were allegedly being offered N50 million to surrender their tickets, while House of Representatives candidates were allegedly being offered N200 million and a vehicle.

“Every member of the House of Assembly who agrees to forfeit his ticket and withdraw for an APC candidate is being given N50 million.

“Every House of Reps member who agrees to let go his candidature will be given N200 million with a car.”

Galadima’s comments come as political parties and aspirants prepare for the 2027 elections.
