Nollywood actress Tope Osoba has died after battling breast cancer. She was 40.
Vanguard reports that the actress passed away on Wednesday, with fellow actress Foluke Daramola announcing the sad news via her Instagram page.
Osoba publicly disclosed her health struggle in 2024, when she appealed for financial assistance after undergoing her first breast cancer surgery.
At the time, Daramola revealed that the actress needed a second operation to remove the remaining cancerous particles from her breast, with the procedure estimated to cost about N12 million.
She also shared footage of Osoba undergoing medical examinations, revealing that the actress had sought support from the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan.
Osoba had also recounted how she discovered a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination.
She said the lump was initially dismissed by a doctor, who attributed it to changes associated with childbearing.
However, the actress insisted on further medical tests, which eventually confirmed that the lump was cancerous.
Her death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and fans, who have remembered her contributions to the Nigerian film industry and her resilience throughout her illness.
