The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Kano State has arrested a 27-year-old man, Yusuf Abdulrazaq, for allegedly posing as an officer of the Corps.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest on behalf of the State Commandant.
The statement said the suspect was arrested at Rimin Auzinawa in Ungogo Local Government Area while allegedly posing as an Assistant Superintendent of Corps I, ASC I, a rank represented by two stars, and claiming to serve at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly offered to track stolen mobile phones but used the service to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
The Kano State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the identities of individuals claiming to be NSCDC officers, especially those demanding money under suspicious circumstances.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining public trust and ensuring that anyone caught impersonating security personnel or engaging in criminal activities faces justice.
The statement added that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with possible prosecution to follow.
The Command also called on residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with security agencies to improve public safety.
