The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has arrested a 25-year-old man, Bala Abubakar, over alleged human trafficking and rescued two 13-year-old girls in Gusau, the state capital.

The suspect was arrested at the Lalan area of Gusau on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., while allegedly transporting the two girls from Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In a statement, the NSCDC said preliminary investigations indicated that the girls, identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, are both indigenes of Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.

The statement added that the suspect allegedly disclosed that the girls were to be handed over to two women identified as Hadiza and Bara’atu, also known as Yar Baba, in Suleja, Niger State.

The State Commandant, CC Sani Mustapha, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary action.

The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to combating human trafficking, child labour and other criminal activities, warning that suspects would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
