The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Chapel, has conferred its Grand Patron honour on public affairs strategist and entrepreneur, Dr. (High Chief) Theodore Okwunicheta Ejikeme (T.O.E.) Ekechi, in recognition of what the union described as his contributions to national development, media advancement, entrepreneurship and humanitarian service.
The union also presented Ekechi with its Most Outstanding Out-of-Home Advertising Icon of the Year 2026 award during a ceremony held in Abuja.
According to the NUJ FCTA Chapel, the honours recognise Ekechi’s contributions to public administration, strategic communications, private enterprise and support for the media.
Ekechi has held several public offices, including Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Imo State, Director of Planning and Monitoring of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Coordinator of the APC National Control Centre, and Federal Commissioner representing the South-East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission between 2019 and 2023.
The union also noted his role as chairman of the Marketing and Media Group, an integrated marketing communications company with interests in advertising, media services, branding, consultancy and renewable energy.
In its citation, the NUJ FCTA Chapel described Ekechi as a public affairs strategist whose activities have contributed to strategic communication, economic empowerment and community development.
The union further stated that his support for the media and Nigeria’s advertising industry has contributed to the growth of strategic communication and national development.
Ekechi has received several honours over the years from different organisations in recognition of his public service and professional achievements.
An author, publisher and philanthropist, he has also been involved in advocacy on peace, national unity, good governance and economic development, according to the citation.
The NUJ FCTA Chapel said the conferment of the Grand Patron title and the advertising award was in recognition of what it described as Ekechi’s leadership, enterprise and service.
