Nwifuru Reshuffles Cabinet, Redeploys Commissioners

 

The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced a major cabinet reshuffle, redeploying several commissioners to new portfolios in a strategic move aimed at strengthening governance and consolidating the achievements of his administration.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Old Cabinet Office in Abakaliki following the State Executive Council meeting.

The cabinet shake-up followed the swearing-in of two new commissioners: Omari Omaka and Sylvester Nwenu Nwite, alongside the inauguration of Felix Onyekachi Njoku as Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation.

​According to Omebeh, Governor Nwifuru charged the newly appointed officials to view their roles as a call to selfless service and to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.

The restructuring affects both newly sworn-in cabinet members and existing commissioners, realigning key ministries to maximise administrative efficiency.

​The newly sworn-in commissioners were assigned substantive portfolios to fill critical vacancies: Omari Omaka was appointed as the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, while Sylvester Nwenu Nwite was deployed to head the Ministry of Environment.

​The strategic shifting of existing executive council members across various ministries is detailed as follows: Chidiebere Onyia was redeployed from the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and ​Ajuka Obasi Nwogo transferred from the Ministry of Market Development to the Ministry of Skill Acquisition.

​Prince Richard Idike moved from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development. Sunday Elechi Inyima transferred from the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development to the Ministry of Project Monitoring.

​Ngozi Obichukwu shifted from the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Special Projects, and Magnus Chinedu Nka reassigned from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development.

​Victor Uzoma Chukwu transferred from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Water Resources, and ​Okwu Oko Udu was formally redeployed to head the Ministry of Market Development.

Governor Nwifuru has directed that all handing-over and taking-over processes must be concluded immediately, with a strict deadline set for no later than the close of work on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Several commissioners retained their existing seats within the Executive Council: Ben Uruchi Odoh (Justice), Ikeuwa Omebeh (Information and State Orientation), Stanley Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism), Donatus Ilang (Primary and Secondary Education), Elechi Nnanna Elechi (Trade and Investment), Jude Okpor (Rural Development), Oguzor Offia Nwali (Commerce and Industry), Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Collins Emeka Igboke (Transportation), and Chinwe Deborah Okah (Budget and Planning)

Responding to press enquiries regarding whether the reshuffle was triggered by poor performance, Omebeh dismissed the notion, emphasising that the exercise was purely designed to reposition the administration for maximum efficiency.

​He explained that the governor meticulously considered the professional backgrounds, experience, and comparative advantages of the council members before approving the redeployments.

​”This is not about non-performance or removing anyone from office.”

“It is about deploying people to ministries where their expertise and experience can be better utilised in the interest of the state,” Omebeh stated.

​Addressing concerns over the omission of the Ministry of Aviation from the new list of commissioners, Omebeh clarified that the ministry has not been scrapped following Ngozi Obichukwu’s redeployment. Instead, it will continue to operate under its existing administrative structure, led by the Permanent Secretary, pending further directives.

​Omebeh reiterated that the administration remains fiercely committed to effective service delivery, noting that this shake-up will inject fresh energy into governance and enhance policy implementation across all sectors in Ebonyi State.
