…Calls for massive lawful support and grassroots organisation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election
The Obidient Connect Texas chapter has formally commenced operations with the inauguration of its leadership structure and a renewed commitment to mobilising Nigerians in Texas around citizen organisation, electoral transparency and lawful support for grassroots democratic participation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
The inaugural Zoom meeting, held on August 23, 2026, brought together members of the Nigerian diaspora in Texas, leaders of Obidient Connect Texas and representatives of the Obidient Connect initiative.
The meeting was moderated by Mr. Kizito Osimnobi Ibe, who welcomed participants and underscored the importance of building a stronger and more organised citizen-led electoral structure ahead of 2027.
The special guest was Mr. Charles Odibo, Director of Media and Communications, and Coordinator of Obidient Connect, who provided an overview of the platform’s objectives and its proposed role in strengthening citizen participation and electoral transparency.
TEXAS LEADERSHIP INAUGURATED
The meeting formally introduced the Obidient Connect Texas leadership team, whose appointments were signed by Professor Pat Utomi, Convener of Obidient Connect and Founder of The Big Tent Coalition. The leadership comprises Prof. Sam Osemene, Leader; Mr. Kizito Osimnobi Ibe, Secretary-General; Dr. Patricia Jones Obika, Public Relations Officer; and Madam Vicky Ekiye, Welfare Secretary. The leadership is expected to coordinate the mobilisation, registration, civic engagement and community activities of Obidient Connect supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians across Texas.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Odibo explained that the central objective of Obidient Connect is to build a structured, citizen-led infrastructure capable of strengthening electoral participation and vote protection. He described the platform as an independent election-management and citizen-engagement infrastructure, designed to organise Nigerians at the grassroots and facilitate the lawful transmission of election information, including certified polling-unit results, for citizen observation and transparency.
He said the initiative is particularly focused on building a network of Vote Protection Marshals and Polling Unit volunteers, with the objective of ensuring that citizens are present, organised and able to document the electoral process responsibly and lawfully. According to him, the experience of the 2023 election demonstrated the need for citizens to move beyond enthusiasm and build the organisational capacity required to participate effectively in the electoral process. “The lesson of 2023 is that mobilisation without organisation is not enough. We must build the infrastructure that allows citizens to participate, observe and protect the integrity of the process.” Odibo also called on Nigerians at home and abroad to register on ObidientConnect.com and encourage family members, friends and young people in Nigeria to join the platform.
A CALL TO THE NIGERIAN DIASPORA
The meeting emphasised the important role of Nigerians abroad in supporting civic education, grassroots organisation and democratic advocacy in Nigeria. Mr. Odibo explained that building a nationwide electoral infrastructure covering Nigeria’s polling units would require substantial resources and called for lawful and transparent contributions from Nigerians within the diaspora. Participants were urged to make donations only through the designated Obidient Connect donation channel and not through individual bank accounts or informal personal collection arrangements. The emphasis on centralised and transparent giving, participants noted, is intended to strengthen accountability and public confidence in the initiative.
ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL
Professor Sam Osemene, Leader of Obidient Connect Texas, reinforced the importance of grassroots organisation, observing that effective political and civic mobilisation ultimately depends on strong local structures. He encouraged members to take ownership of the initiative by registering on the platform, encouraging others to register and supporting legitimate donation through the official Obidient Connect link. He also stressed the simplicity of the platform’s donation mechanism and encouraged members to use the official Obidient Connect donation link rather than individual accounts.
QUESTIONS ON 2027 ELECTORAL PREPAREDNESS
Participants engaged the national representative in an extensive question-and-answer session covering electoral organisation, polling-unit structures, vote protection, registration and the broader objectives of Obidient Connect.
The discussions reinforced the importance of beginning preparations well ahead of election day rather than waiting until the final weeks of the campaign. Members were encouraged to see themselves not merely as political supporters but as active citizens with a responsibility to strengthen democratic participation and electoral accountability.
A PEOPLE-POWERED APPROACH TO 2027
The inauguration of Obidient Connect Texas represents another step in the effort to establish a coordinated network of Nigerians committed to strengthening democratic participation ahead of 2027. The initiative maintains that the credibility of an election ultimately depends not only on electoral institutions but also on the preparedness, vigilance and participation of citizens.
As Obidient Connect expands across Nigerian communities in the United States and other parts of the diaspora, the Texas chapter is calling on Nigerians who believe in accountable government and credible elections to join the initiative and contribute their time, networks and lawful resources to building a stronger citizen presence ahead of 2027.
