October 1: What I’ll do with fuel production subsidy as president – Atiku

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has outlined a strategic plan to improve economic affordability in Nigeria through targeted fuel subsidies.

Speaking during a world press conference on Thursday to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, Atiku said he would introduce a capped production subsidy exclusively for fuel refined within Nigeria.

According to him, to ensure transparency, all costs and payments must be independently audited.

“Working with my running mate and our partners in the ADC, I will pursue a clear purpose: make life affordable. We will introduce a capped, budgeted production subsidy tied to verified fuel refined in Nigeria, including modular refineries.

“Imported petrol will not qualify. The benefits must reach consumers through lower pump prices. Costs and payments will be published and independently audited.

“Nigeria’s public debt stood at N166.79 trillion at the end of June. Before borrowing another dollar in the people’s name, government must name the projects, show what they cost, and say who benefited and who was paid.

“Tinubu promised lower transportation fares for October 1. Today is October 1. Let him publish the routes, the old and new fares, and the number of people benefiting. Nigerians cannot board an announcement,” Atiku stated.
