Ogun: Amosun’s political structure dumps APC for PDP

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

A political structure for former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, in Abeokuta South has left the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defection was announced on Wednesday in Abeokuta by the movement’s leader, Moshood Okanlawon Akinleye, popularly known as Americo.

In a video from the meeting sighted by DAILY POST, Akinleye said the group’s experience in the APC was disappointing and that members had decided to return to the PDP.

“Our previous experience in the APC was disappointing,” Akinleye said. “We have returned to the PDP, which is our political home.”

He said the Senator Ibikunle Amosun (SIA) Movement took the decision after reassessing its political journey.

“The APC in Ogun State lacks direction and has failed to offer the people purposeful leadership,” he said, adding that “its policies and approach to governance have not reflected the aspirations of ordinary citizens.”

Akinleye likened the party’s approach to a cult and said the movement had resolved to work with PDP candidates.

“We have resolved to identify with PDP candidates at all levels to form a government for the good of the people,” he said.

He also said the group would mobilise for the party in 2027.

“We will mobilise our members and supporters to vote for them in 2027. We will not vote an outsider to lead the state,” he said.

Akinleye said the movement would work across Abeokuta South to support PDP candidates at the polls.
