Ogun: Court grants Indian herbs seller, 2 others N500k bail for assaulting police officers

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

An Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Friday granted bail to three suspects arrested for alleged assault and obstruction of police officers in Ogun State.

The defendants, Alaba Mulika, 51, Alawode Iyanu, 21, and Temitope Saliu, 29, were charged following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, into an incident that occurred on September 29, 2026.

According to a statement by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, a team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye, when a Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street.

It was alleged that a physical confrontation followed, during which Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi were assaulted.

The incident was said to have been triggered when the driver of the impounded vehicle called Alaba Mulika, an alleged Indian herb seller from Awa-Ijebu, who allegedly stormed the scene, attacked the officers and prevented the vehicle from being taken to Ago-Iwoye Police Station.

“A physical confrontation allegedly followed, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted. Video recordings of the incident, which subsequently circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation.”

Babaseyi said the defendants were facing five counts bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, serious assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The PPRO noted that the court granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties.

According to him, the sureties are to provide evidence of tax payment and proof of house ownership within the court’s jurisdiction, subject to verification by the court registrar.

Babaseyi added that the case was adjourned to October 12, 2026, for further proceedings, warning members of the public against physical confrontation with officers on lawful duty and urging them to channel complaints through lawful mechanisms.
