The Ogun State Government has urged private schools across the state to embrace digital education and go beyond the provision of computers in establishing Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres.
The government stressed the need for reliable infrastructure, qualified personnel, regular maintenance and adequate security to promote credible assessment and effective learning.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the charge on Tuesday at the official launching and commissioning of a 300-capacity CBT Centre at Christ Nation School, Moloko Asipa, along Iyana-Obafe road, Ogun State.
Arigbabu, who was represented by the Director of Private Schools in the Ministry, Mr Akeem Bisiriyu, said education must evolve to meet the demands of the digital age, noting that computer-based assessment has become central to examinations conducted by national examination bodies.
"The world is rapidly becoming technology-driven, and education must evolve to meet the demands of the digital age. Computer-based assessment is increasingly important in examinations, including those conducted by national examination bodies.
"Therefore, providing learners with access to digital learning facilities will help improve their computer literacy, confidence and preparedness for future examinations," he stated.
He said the initiative aligns with the state government's commitment to educational development and digital transformation, urging the management of the school to ensure the centre is properly maintained.
The Commissioner also charged learners to embrace technology responsibly, stressing that technology should go beyond helping them pass examinations to empowering them to think critically, solve problems and become productive members of society.
"To the teachers, I urge you to continue improving your professional competencies and integrating appropriate digital tools into your teaching practices. The quality of our education system depends significantly on the capacity, commitment and creativity of our teachers," he added.
He reiterated the Ministry's commitment to policies that promote quality assurance, technological advancement and improved educational standards, adding that it will continue to encourage schools to align with regulatory requirements.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Ogun State Office, Mrs Folashade Agbonifo, who inspected the facility, said it has met all necessary criteria for accreditation.
Agbonifo said the Board is working to reduce trauma and build trust for candidates, noting that the conducive environment and star topology deployed at the centre were impressive.
She added that candidates can be brought in ahead of examinations to familiarise themselves with the gadgets in order to build confidence and ensure success.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Proprietress of the school, Mrs Modupe Wigwe, said the centre will expose learners to global opportunities, attract CBT examinations to the environment, and create business opportunities.
She appealed to government for support and collaboration to enable the school do more.
On his part, the Director and Proprietor of the school, Mr Chibuzor Wigwe, described education as the backbone of every nation, saying it is inevitable and indispensable for physical and mental development.
He urged schools across Ogun and Nigeria to emulate the initiative and digitalise education to help students compete globally and succeed in life.
