He succeeded Oba Adesanya Gbelegbuwa II.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He was married to three wives – Iyabọ Oke, Modupe Ẹkundayọ, and Oluwakẹmi Dodo-Williams and is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In 2024, during his 90th birthday ceremony, President Bola Tinubu conferred on him the second highest national honour, Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and selfless service.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>94 Princes, One Princess Eyes Throne\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>DAILY POST recalls that following his demise, no fewer than 95 people, comprising 94 princes and a princess from the Fusengbuwa ruling house of Ijebu Ode, indicated their interest as contestants for the vacant stool.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They emerged at a nomination meeting presided over by the Chairman of the ruling house, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, his deputy Prince Adedokun Ajidagba, and vice, Prof Fassy Yusuf, held by the ruling house at Bisrod Hall, GRA,Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Some of the contestants to the throne include Giwa Abiodun Onanuga, the husband of a former deputy governor of the state, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga; renowned Ophthalmologist and founder of Eyes Foundation Hospital, Dr Kunle Hassan; Otunba Fatai Arowolo of Aron Construction, among others, while the only female contestant is Oluwakemi Onanuga, a lawyer.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde, aka KWAM1, also declared interest in the throne. However, the Fusengbuwa family immediately dismissed his claim, stating that the musician was not a member of the ruling house and therefore could not participate in the selection process. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>KWAM1 had approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, seeking an interim injunction to stop Governor Dapo Abiodun and six others from proceeding with the selection.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Ogun Govt Halts, Resumes, Then Halts Process Again\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Ogun State Government on December 11, 2025, cancelled the selection process and ordered the ruling house to restart the exercise in strict compliance with the law to avoid prolonged litigation.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Following this directive, the government, through a January 6 letter, cleared the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to resume the process. But on 20 January, it suspended the selection process again, instructing all parties, including the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and Awujale Kingmakers’ Council, to await further directives to protect peace and the integrity of the stool.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The suspension, in a letter by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs  signed by the commissioner, Ganiyu Hamzat, ascribed the reason due to petitions received from security agencies and other stakeholders\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He cited security concerns and the need to maintain public order.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>DAILY POST had reported that in April, nine Ijebu Ode kingmakers were also invited at the State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, over allegations of bribery and financial inducement during the selection process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>They were invited via a letter dated April 17th, 2026, signed by Gbenga Adeoye, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Recall that they had earlier been invited in February, over accusations of cash inducement but, after intervention by some superior authorities, the probe was eventually dropped.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>One of the kingmakers, the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla, who confirmed the police invitation then, described the frequent invitations as a distraction and appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to allow the kingmakers do their job in picking the next Awujale of Ijebu land without any further delay.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We are only pleading with Governor Dapo Abiodun to allow the kingmakers to do their job and complete the assignment of picking the next Awujale of Ijebu land without any further delay,” he stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Also, Chairman of the Funsengbuwa Ruling House, Alhaji Abdulateef Owoyemi appealed to Governor Abiodun to lift the suspension placed on the selection process.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the state government’s action had stalled the age-long traditional exercise, asserting that the allegation of bribery and financial inducement against the kingmakers was frivolous, insisting that nothing incriminating had been found against them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Owoyemi said the ruling house had fulfilled its traditional responsibility by submitting a list of nominees to the designated kingmakers in line with laid-down customs before the process was interrupted. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He noted that investigations by security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, have not established any wrongdoing against members of the ruling house or the kingmakers, describing the continued suspension as unjustified.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He expressed confidence in the integrity of the kingmakers, who he noted were carefully selected during the reign of the late Awujale, to choose his successor. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Despite appeals from the kingmakers and other stakeholders, the 2026 Ojude Oba festival was celebrated without an Awujale on the throne as the Ogun State Government’s suspension of the selection process is still on.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Meanwhile, a purported letter was allegedly written by the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Chief Rasheed Adesanya, to Governor Dapo Abiodun, nominating five princes for the government to choose from.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Reacting to the report, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, called on members of the public to disregard the letter, saying it does not change the fact that the Awujale selection process is still under suspension as announced by the government about six months ago.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Akinmade said whoever wrote the letter had no locus standi, adding that a valid communication conveying such decisions by kingmakers would ordinarily come through the local government.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>When contacted, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode said he had nothing to do with the letter, opining that it might have been written in his name to tarnish his image.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said, “I don’t know anything about the letter you are talking about, I am not a party to that, I am not a party to any letter. There are lots of people who may just want to tarnish my reputation, but I don’t know anything about this letter.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Recall that before his death, Oba Adetona, seven years ago, warned against what he describes as “politicisation” of the stool after his demise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He enjoined the kingmakers to call on God for direction before the selection of his successor.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Oba Adetona had said, “When I eventually go, please, go for a capable successor. Reject any candidate that will put Ijebu Land into retrogression.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Do not politicise the process of selecting my successor. If the next ruling house does not present a viable candidate, please, reject him, and go for the next ruling house with a capable candidate.” \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Do not go for moneybags that will destroy the achievements Ijebu Land has recorded so far,” he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca Kabiru Musa, sentenced the defendant to 15 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine for the offence of incest.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>For the offence of criminal intimidation, the court sentenced Sylvester to 10 years’ imprisonment with an option of a N250,000 fine, whilst for the offence of assault, the court sentenced the defendant to five years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The court, explaining that the sentences shall run consecutively, further pronounced that the defendant has the constitutional right of appeal against the judgment to the High Court of Adamawa State within the next 30 days.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The judge said the most disturbing part of the case was the testimony of the victim that the defendant habitually intimidated and forced her into sexual intercourse whenever he desired.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Having carefully considered the statement of complaint, the unequivocal plea of guilty entered by the defendant, the oral testimony of the victim in corroboration thereof, and the entire record before the court, I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved the offences charged beyond reasonable doubt as required by law,” the judge said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“A plea of guilty, once voluntarily made and corroborated where necessary, constitutes the strongest evidence against an accused person. When the driver arrived at the Bauchi motor park near Awala Hotel, he contacted her to collect the package.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Her brother reportedly took her to the park on a motorcycle. After collecting the items, they were heading home when the crash occurred.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the source, as they approached the Police Officers’ Mess and were about to turn into the New GRA area, the Sharon bus hit the motorcycle and sped off.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Rebecca was thrown onto the road and suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured skull. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother sustained injuries.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>A First Information Report obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi Sector Command, showed that the crash occurred at about 5:15 pm on July 14, 2026, and was reported five minutes later.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at about 5:30 p.m., recording a response time of 10 minutes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It identified the motorcycle involved as a Jincheng motorcycle with registration number TFB-38-QB, used for private purposes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The FRSC said two adults, a male and a female, were involved in the crash. region.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the report, the attack occurred in the early hours of July 15 when suspected kidnappers stormed the district head’s residence located in the Hubbare area of Birnin Kebbi.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama reported that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Birnin Kebbi received a distress call at about 1:13am, from Alhaji Uwaisu Saad of Ubandoman Kebbi, alerting security operatives to the incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report stated that the DPO mobilised a joint security team comprising police operatives, personnel of the 36 Police Mobile Force, officers of the Operations Department, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, and local vigilantes to the scene.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“According to the sources, the suspected kidnappers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the advancing security operatives, abandoning their mission,” the report stated.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makama added that the security team rescued the district head and members of his family without any of them being abducted.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The report, however, stated that three labourers working at the Katsina Police Command has arrested a suspected drug peddler allegedly supplying illicit drugs to armed bandits in Funtua Local Government Area.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Katsina.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said the suspect, popularly known as “Dunbuje”, was arrested on July 15, at about 5 p.m., by operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Funtua.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to the police spokesperson, the success was recorded following credible intelligence.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the operatives trailed the suspect before apprehending him, adding that an immediate search led to the recovery of 500 tablets of the illicit drug, D5.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect specialised in supplying the drugs to suspected armed bandits and other criminal elements operating in Funtua and neighbouring communities, thereby aiding their criminal activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the suspect is in police custody while investigations continue to unravel his distribution network, identify his source of supply and arrest other accomplices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ali Umar-Fage, commended the operatives for their Agya, made this known on Thursday while receiving the Executive Chairman of TIRS, Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (retd), and members of his management team during a familiarisation and collaborative visit to the State High Court Complex in Jalingo.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Justice Agya commended the revenue service for its ongoing reforms, describing them as instrumental to the significant improvement in the state’s internally generated revenue.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He also lauded the adoption of technology in revenue administration, noting that the Judiciary’s electronic filing (e-filing) system had enhanced transparency and accountability in the remittance of court-generated revenue into the state treasury.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to him, the courts remitted about N198 million into the state’s coffers in 2026, despite the Judiciary not being established as a revenue-generating institution.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The Chief Judge further directed the deployment of judges to preside over mobile courts to facilitate tax enforcement and ensure compliance with the state’s tax laws.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The Judiciary and the Internal Revenue Service occupy distinct but complementary positions in the machinery of government.
