Ogun State Command, under the leadership of CP Bode Ojajuni, has warned schoolgirls in the state to steer clear of cultism, cybercrime, drug abuse and child marriage.
The warning was issued during a sensitisation campaign to mark the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, held at Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School and Baptist Girls’ College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
The campaign, carried out through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), was led by the State Coordinator, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode.
While addressing the students on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and negative peer influence, Oluborode warned that such vices could truncate their education and future aspirations.
He said the outreach aligned with this year’s theme, “End Child Marriage & Invest in Girls’ Rights,” and emphasised the need to protect girls against child marriage, discrimination and abuse, as provided for under the Child Rights Act.
Speaking on the topic, “Breaking Boundaries: Shaping the Future of the Girl Child,” Oluborode sensitised the students on gender equality, access to education and legal safeguards, urging them to resist discrimination, abuse and harmful practices.
He advised the girls to embrace education, discipline and self-confidence, noting that gender should never be a barrier to excellence.
The command also called for sustained collaboration among the police, schools, parents and community leaders to safeguard children and promote safe learning environments. It urged stakeholders to report suspected cases of child abuse and exploitation.
The students pledged to shun social vices, resist child marriage and remain committed to academic excellence, while the management of both schools commended the police for prioritising child protection and youth development.
