Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, unit of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected military impostor popularly known as "General Don".
The suspect, identified as Akinola Damilare, was arrested at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the Kajola, Elega area of Abeokuta.
DAILY POST gathered that the arrest followed credible intelligence provided by a community leader and discreet surveillance by SWAT operatives.
Items recovered from the suspect included a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs showing him dressed in military uniform.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
He said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether other persons were connected to the case.
Babaseyi reaffirmed the command's commitment to tackling impersonation and other criminal activities, urging residents to promptly report suspicious conduct.
The arrest comes amid concerns over the activities of individuals impersonating military and police personnel to commit crimes across the country.
Military impersonators have been linked to crimes such as kidnapping, extortion, land grabbing and intimidation, with victims sometimes afraid to challenge them because of the uniforms.
