We know you are capable. We know you can do it,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also disclosed that the chairmen of all nine unions had signed the endorsement card presented to Adeola.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“On behalf of all the transport unions in the state, we are endorsing you today. And all the nine transport union chairmen in the state have appended their signatures,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adeola pledges continuity\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding, Adeola thanked the unions for their support and pledged to consolidate the development of Ogun State if elected governor in 2027.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said residents should expect further development under his administration.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“I can tell you that the people of Ogun State are about to witness the biggest development in the history of this state,” Adeola said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The APC candidate said he would build on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration while pursuing further development across the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We will continue to grow higher and higher and higher and higher. We can never relinquish this state to mediocre, to power grabbers, to people who only want to satisfy their personal gain. Ogun State deserves better,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abiodun backs continuity\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abiodun, who also addressed the gathering, described the unions’ endorsement as “truly unprecedented and historic”, saying their collective position demonstrated unity among transport operators in the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Today, we are standing here hand in hand in unity. We are all here. All the transport unions collectively and individually are here,” the governor said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the development was significant against the backdrop of what he described as the need for stability and continuity in Ogun State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Something unprecedented in the 50-year history of this beloved state. Stability,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abiodun added that the development would promote continuity, socio-economic development and investor confidence in the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“This speaks to continuity. This speaks to socio-economic development. This speaks to investor confidence because investors are looking at Ogun State and they are saying nothing will change,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor also appealed to transport operators to refrain from arbitrary increases in fares, saying his administration had invested significantly in road infrastructure and other measures aimed at creating an enabling environment for the transport sector.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the government had constructed or reconstructed more than 1,700 kilometres of roads across the state and implemented a multimodal transport master plan.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“For you transport unions, we have reconstructed or constructed over 1,700 kilometres of roads across the length and breadth of this state,” Abiodun said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We have by so doing created an enabling environment for your sector to not only thrive but to succeed.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACOMORAN seeks transport sector development\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also speaking, the National President of ACOMORAN, Alhaji Shamsudeen Apelogun, said the unions’ decision to endorse a governorship candidate demonstrated their political awareness and importance to the state’s economy.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apelogun described transport operators as major stakeholders in Ogun, noting that they possessed significant organisational and numerical strength.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the unions were organised groups capable of using their votes to support candidates they believed deserved their backing.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called for greater attention to roads and transportation infrastructure, arguing that an We humbly request that you benevolently approve that the remaining gratuity from January 2021 to June 2025 be released to would-be beneficiaries, to give our long-expectant members a ray of hope.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NUP chairman also called for the implementation of consequential adjustments in pensions arising from the 2019 Federal Government circular and subsequent increases in the national minimum wage.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, many retirees who left service 10, 25 and even 30 years ago still receive as little as N30,000 monthly pension despite the sharp rise in the cost of living.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede said the situation had made life increasingly difficult for elderly citizens, particularly as the prices of drugs, food and other essential commodities continued to rise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The cost of drugs, food and other necessities has skyrocketed beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen, resulting in serious health challenges and, eventually, untimely deaths,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged the state government to approve the pension adjustments, saying the move would provide relief to retirees, promote parity and improve the welfare of senior citizens in the state.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede added that implementing the adjustment would also leave a lasting legacy for the governor, saying it would “imprint the governor’s name in gold in the history of the state.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pensioners commend Abiodun\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pensioners’ leader, however, commended Abiodun for what he described as significant improvements in the welfare of retirees, particularly the prompt and regular payment of monthly pensions.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, unlike in many states where pensioners still face delays, Ogun retirees now receive their monthly pensions as and when due.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“You have restored our dignity and given us peace of mind. You have wiped away tears from the faces of our aged members,” Oloyede said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also commended the administration for clearing the backlog of gratuities owed by previous administrations up to December 2020 for state retirees and December 2021 for local government retirees, describing the payments as running into multiple billions of naira.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“For many years, many of our members died without receiving their gratuity. Your administration has changed that ugly narrative,” he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede further appreciated the state government for introducing a free health insurance scheme for state and local government pensioners.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He, however, raised concerns over complaints about the implementation of the scheme at some health facilities, urging the agency supervising the programme to investigate the complaints and address identified challenges.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NLC seeks resolution of grievances\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his goodwill message, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hameed Ademola-Benco, commended the governor for his interventions in the welfare of pensioners.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged the state government to consider all outstanding grievances raised by retirees, stressing that pensioners should not be made to struggle before accessing benefits due to them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We appreciate the governor for all he has done.
