Ogun transport workers seek Abiodun's help to stop impending crisis

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Stakeholders in the Ogun State transport sector have raised alarm over an impending crisis capable of leading to widespread destruction of lives and property if not urgently addressed.

The stakeholders, operating under the Ogun State Parks Management, PAM, issued a strong cry for help to the Ogun State Government and leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, warning that politically motivated moves to destabilize park management structures across senatorial districts could plunge the state into chaos.

In a petition signed by Concerned Central Leaders and made available to DAILY POST on Friday, the group said tension has continued to mount in motor parks and transit hubs over alleged plans to alter administrative boundaries to favour one zone against another.

According to the leaders, Ogun East senatorial district currently controls five distinct transport unions, while Ogun Central has only one operational structure.

Despite the lopsided arrangement, they alleged that there are active plans to strip Ogun Central of its sole management structure and hand it over to Ogun East.

The PAM leaders described the move as an aggressive scheme capable of triggering civil unrest.

“The attempt to use the state’s transport ecosystem as a pawn in political maneuvers poses an immediate threat to public safety, commercial activities, and the livelihoods of thousands of transport operators,” the petition stated.

They warned that if left unchecked, the brewing agitation could lead to clashes among rival transport groups, disrupt movement of goods and passengers, and create security breaches across major parks in Abeokuta and other parts of the state.

The stakeholders called on Governor Dapo Abiodun and top APC chieftains to urgently intervene, noting that the timing is delicate as the state approaches another election cycle.

They stressed that those fueling the crisis are acting out of selfish interests and not in the interest of the peace and economic stability of Ogun State.
