Chaos in the Ring returned to the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, July 31, delivering another thrilling night of elite boxing, celebrity rivalries and breakout performances that reinforced the platform’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s leading boxing and sports entertainment events.
The evening featured a mix of professional contests and headline celebrity bouts, with Charles Okocha, Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo, Yusuf Adeniji, Suleiman Jafaru, Michael Babalola and Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas emerging among the night’s biggest winners.
The headline celebrity rematch between Portable and Charles Okocha, tagged “Unfinished Business,” ended in dramatic fashion after Portable was disqualified for leaving the ring before the conclusion of the opening round. The contest briefly descended into chaos following a heated exchange between both fighters before security officials restored order.
Although Portable later returned to the ring, officials upheld the decision and awarded victory to Charles Okocha.
The night’s other celebrity contest saw music stars Mr. Real and Idowest battle through five entertaining rounds before judges declared the bout a draw.
The closely contested encounter drew loud reactions from fans inside the arena, with Idowest insisting he had done enough to secure victory. Following the result, organisers announced an official rematch scheduled for October 1.
Away from the celebrity spotlight, the professional fighters once again demonstrated why they remain at the heart of the Chaos in the Ring platform.
One of the standout performances of the evening came from Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo, who stopped Said Mohamed Hassan in the second round after dominating the contest from the opening bell.
Speaking after the victory, an elated Adebayo said: “First of all, I want to thank Allah. I didn’t know round two was the round. I promised him round five. I prepared for this fight, and I was determined to face off with him.”
The rising boxer also declared his ambitions for the future. “I’m ready to be the face of Nigeria. I think I am currently the face of boxing in Nigeria.”
In another impressive display, Yusuf Adeniji defeated Rilwan Lawal by unanimous decision in their super-featherweight contest, with the judges scoring the bout 79-72, 78-73 and 78-73 in his favour.
The biggest upset of the night belonged to Suleiman Jafaru, who produced a stunning knockout victory over former British super-welterweight champion Samuel Antwi in one of the most memorable moments of the evening.
In recognition of his outstanding performance, Balmoral Promotions immediately awarded Jafaru a promotional contract, while EV Automobiles, one of the event’s headline sponsors, presented him with a brand-new electric vehicle, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to rewarding excellence and creating life-changing opportunities for African fighters.
Elsewhere, Michael Babalola preserved his unbeaten professional record with a unanimous decision victory over Abidemi Rabiu, while Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas earned an Impressive unanimous decision win over Ghana’s Eric “Kojo” Quarm in their welterweight contest.
