LAGOS — The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has described the late Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, as a beacon of integrity, professionalism and dedication to journalism.
Adams said Oladipo’s sudden death was a major loss to all who valued truthful and ethical journalism.
In a statement on Thursday, Adams expressed profound sorrow and extended his condolences to Oladipo’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as the wider Nigerian journalism community.
He also sympathised with the management and staff of Eagle Online, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
Adams described Oladipo as “a rare gem” whose contributions to Nigeria’s media landscape were significant and enduring, saying his death had left a huge void in the journalism profession.
“Dotun Oladipo was more than just a journalist. We have lost a man whose work elevated the standards of reporting and publishing in Nigeria.
“He was a mentor and source of inspiration to many young journalists. His commitment to nurturing talent and promoting responsible journalism has left an indelible mark on the industry,” he said.
Adams said Oladipo distinguished himself through a combination of humility, professionalism and excellence, adding that he was not one to seek the limelight but remained committed to ensuring that the truth was reported with clarity and fairness.
He said Oladipo’s dedication was evident in the stories he published and the editorial decisions he made throughout his career.
According to him, Oladipo’s impact extended beyond the newsroom, as his leadership at Eagle Online helped shape public discourse and provided a platform for critical issues affecting the country.
“His editorial vision was characterised by a commitment to truth, fairness and the pursuit of justice, qualities that earned him respect across the media spectrum,” Adams said.
He urged Nigerians to remember and celebrate Oladipo’s life, while calling on media practitioners to emulate his dedication and ethical standards.
“In mourning his loss, we must also renew our commitment to the principles he stood for. His legacy is a challenge to all of us to strive for excellence and integrity in our work,” he said.
