Actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has been honoured with two social impact awards after donating earnings from her film, Mother’s Love, to the education of children from underserved communities. A joint production, Omotola shortly after the film release made promise of donating 100 percent proceeds of the film to the project.

The producers – Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and co-produced by Tyna Obahiagbon – pledged that 100% of net cinema proceeds after standard deductions would be donated to the NGO Slum2School Africa to support children’s education in underserved communities.

Omotola says her decision to give back through her film has become an inspiration to her after it resonated with many people. The actress revealed that the gesture was inspired by her desire to support children in communities such as Makoko, one of the locations featured in the film.

For the honours, Omotola said she was thankful for the opportunity to combine filmmaking with giving back to society. She recalled her decision to donate the entire amount that accrued to the producers of Mother’s Love to Slum2School Africa, an organisation supporting children from underserved communities.

Mother’s Love, which premiered in Nigerian cinemas on March 6, 2026, marked Omotola’s feature directorial debut, and was reported to have grossed more than N103 million during its cinema run. After deductions for exhibitors, distributors, taxes and other expenses, N22,276,558 accrued to the producers.

Omotola subsequently confirmed that the entire amount was transferred to Slum2School Africa in July to support its education initiatives. The donation was linked to the film’s focus on children from underserved communities, including Makoko, which featured in the project.

The latest honours add to Omotola’s social causes alongside her career in Nollywood. Omotola described the recognition as a reflection of her gratitude for being able to combine her career with giving back to society. “I am truly grateful to God to be able to do what I love and give back through it.”

The recognition adds another milestone to Omotola’s work in film, where she has built a career that spans acting, producing, and advocacy. The actress has also spoken publicly about the need for greater structure within Nigeria’s film industry and has compared aspects of her experience in Nollywood and Hollywood.
