Ondo Air Crash: NMA FCT tells Tinubu, NAF what to do with investigation outcome

Daily Post about 2 hours 3 mins read

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Chapter, has urged the Federal Government to use the outcome of the investigation into the October 5 air crash in Ondo State to strengthen aviation safety and prevent similar tragedies.

The association said the findings of the investigation should provide valuable lessons for improving safety standards and preventing a recurrence of the incident, which claimed the lives of 25 Nigerian Air Force, NAF personnel.

The Chairman and Secretary of NMA FCT, Dr George Ebong and Arome Adejo, respectively, made the call in a statement jointly signed on Friday.

DAILY POST reports that a NAF aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5, 2026, killing 25 personnel.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu subsequently declared three days of national mourning in honour of the deceased personnel.

NAF immediately also commenced an investigation into the crash.

However, in reaction to the tragedy, the NMA FCT Chapter expressed deep sadness over the loss of the military personnel, describing their deaths as a painful loss to their families, colleagues and the country.

The association said it stood in solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families during the difficult period.

It also honoured the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the deceased personnel, while praying for strength for their families and colleagues to bear the loss.

On the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, the association expressed hope that the findings would help improve aviation safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chapter, on behalf of its State Officers Committee and entire membership, extends its deepest condolences to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; the leadership and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force; and the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the personnel who lost their lives in the tragic aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, October 5, 2026. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.

“The NMA FCT Chapter received news of the incident with profound sadness. The loss of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, who dedicated their lives to serving and protecting the nation, is deeply painful, not only to their families and colleagues but also to the entire country.

“The NMA FCT Chapter stands in solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families during this difficult time.

“We honour the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the deceased personnel.

“We pray that Almighty God grants the bereaved families, colleagues, and the entire Nigerian Air Force the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and grants the departed eternal rest.

“We welcome the ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and trust that the outcome of the investigation will provide valuable lessons for strengthening aviation safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future,” the association stated.
