AKURE — The All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives candidate for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Barr. Abdulghani Rotimi Arobo, has described the amended Ondo State Electricity Power Sector Law as a major step towards industrialisation, job creation and economic development.
Arobo, in a statement issued by his campaign organisation, GRA4MHR, said the legislation, assented to by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on August 13, 2026, would create opportunities for private investment, off-grid electricity solutions and sustainable power generation across the state.
He commended Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State House of Assembly for what he described as a proactive approach to reforming the state’s electricity sector.
The APC candidate also credited the President Bola Tinubu administration with laying the foundation for the decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity sector through the Electricity Act, which, he said, gave states greater responsibility for electricity generation and regulation.
According to him, reliable electricity is critical to industrialisation and poverty reduction, particularly in rural and agrarian communities.
Arobo said Ose Local Government Area, where some communities have reportedly been without electricity for more than a decade, should be prioritised under the new legal framework.
He called on the state government to designate Ose as a pilot hub for alternative energy and off-grid solutions, including solar mini-grids and other renewable energy projects.
He said such interventions would stimulate economic activities in agricultural communities by providing power for processing, storage and other value-added activities.
Arobo also advocated the development of industrial and agricultural clusters across Owo and Ose, saying reliable electricity would help reduce post-harvest losses and support cottage industries.
He further called for expanded technical training in renewable energy, arguing that the deployment of alternative energy systems could create jobs for young people in installation, maintenance and related services.
The APC candidate stressed that the new electricity law should not remain a policy document but should be followed by aggressive implementation at the grassroots.
He described the legislation as a product of federal and state collaboration and expressed optimism that effective implementation would help unlock Ondo State’s economic potential.
Arobo pledged that his campaign would continue to make access to reliable electricity a major issue in the Owo/Ose constituency ahead of the general election.
He further promised that, if elected and sworn into office, he would intensify efforts to attract interventions aimed at improving electricity supply and creating opportunities for industrial and agricultural development in the constituency.
