One dies, three injured as Lexus jeep crashes on Lagos coastal road

Daily Post about 4 hours 2 mins read

One person has died, while three others sustained serious injuries after a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Coastal Road inward Eko Hotel in Lagos.

A statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, disclosed that the fatal road crash occurred earlier on Friday and involved the vehicle with registration number LSD 554 KV.

Preliminary security information indicated that the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it collided violently with a roadside pole and overturned.

The crash left three people seriously injured, while one person was confirmed dead.

Operatives of the agency, who were monitoring traffic around the Coastal Road axis, quickly moved to the scene after the incident.

The officers secured the affected section of the road and facilitated the emergency response.

With the assistance of bystanders, the three injured victims were removed from the wreckage and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical treatment.

The situation was subsequently brought under control, while relevant emergency and security agencies were engaged to carry out rescue, investigation and other safety procedures.

Security personnel from Victoria Island also provided reinforcement at the scene.

LASTMA officers later removed the mangled Lexus from the carriageway to prevent a possible secondary crash or further danger to other road users.

The removal of the vehicle also helped to restore the free flow of traffic along the road.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condoled with the family of the deceased and again urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.

He advised motorists to maintain safe speeds, remain vigilant and comply with existing traffic regulations.

“Excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of vehicular control could have devastating and irreversible consequences for motorists and other road users,” Bakare-Oki warned.

The LASTMA General Manager also urged motorists and members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through the agency’s toll-free short code for quick intervention.
