Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has initiated a statewide security and surveillance project designed to strengthen security operations and protect residents, businesses and public facilities across the state.
The initiative, announced on Tuesday by the Osun State Government, is being developed in partnership with Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited, a Chinese technology firm.
The project, according to a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, comes ahead of the governor’s second-term inauguration, with plans to deploy advanced security technologies and establish a centralised system for monitoring security developments across Osun.
The statement disclosed that the governor met with the Chinese delegation on Monday to discuss and finalise details of the proposed initiative.
The delegation was led by Cai Jianfei, Director of International Operations, and Nemo Guo, Manager of Overseas Operations.
According to the state government, "The project will involve installing a comprehensive security and intelligence platform to provide surveillance coverage across the state and enable authorities to monitor security situations from a Command and Control Centre.
"The proposed system will deploy drones, radar, artificial intelligence-enabled cameras, robotics and Internet of Things technology to gather information, monitor incidents and support real-time security operations around the clock.
"The initiative will also incorporate a Safe School Project aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions. In addition, a decentralised application will be installed on citizens’ mobile phones to connect them with the Command and Control Centre.
"The planned surveillance network will cover schools, hospitals, banks, industries, farms, mining sites, commercial centres, bus parks and motor garages across major towns and important transport routes in Osun State."
Governor Adeleke, while commenting on the proposal, referred to his administration’s establishment of the Osun State Security Trust Fund and said the new initiative would deploy emerging technologies to strengthen security across the state.
“Our plan is to create an inclusive security platform that will fully secure and protect our people. From schools, hospitals, businesses and border communities, this initiative is a strategic option,” the governor said.
The state government said the proposed system would provide an integrated security framework covering different sectors and communities, with information gathered through the surveillance network monitored from the central control facility.
Speaking on the initiative, Cai Jianfei said the project would integrate the capabilities of the state government to improve the protection of residents and businesses.
He also invited Governor Adeleke to undertake a working visit to China.
