The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management Bill, 2026.
The bill was passed into law on Tuesday during plenary following its successful third reading.
The passage followed the consideration of the bill after it had earlier scaled through the second reading, during which lawmakers deliberated extensively on the need for a structured framework for managing motor parks, garages, traffic and transport-related activities across the state.
The bill, sponsored by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, Abiola Ibrahim, is designed to establish a comprehensive management system for the transport sector, particularly in the areas of motor park administration, traffic management and revenue collection.
During the earlier debate, Ibrahim explained that the proposed legislation would provide a more organised approach to the collection and management of revenues generated from motor parks and other transport-related activities.
He said the bill would also assist the state in blocking revenue leakages and strengthening the management of internally generated revenue through a more accountable transport revenue collection system.
According to him, “the legislation would promote the digitalisation of the ticketing system and provide a structured framework for the operation and administration of motor parks across Osun State.”
The bill contains provisions aimed at addressing thuggery, violence, extortion and other unlawful activities associated with the operations of motor parks and garages.
Lawmakers also emphasised the importance of maintaining order and safety in motor parks and garages, particularly against the backdrop of recent disputes over the control and management of some parks across the state.
Following the conclusion of the legislative processes and consideration of the provisions of the bill, the House proceeded to the third reading, after which the legislation was passed into law.
The Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, said the passage was part of efforts to establish a coordinated, transparent and orderly system for managing transportation, traffic and motor parks in the state.
He added that the final copy of the bill would be transmitted to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for his assent.
