The Imole Campaign Council, the campaign organisation backing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that the governor will secure victory in Saturday’s governorship election by a wide margin.
The council, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, attributed its optimism to what it described as the “overwhelming support” Adeleke received from voters across the state during the ongoing election.
“Going by the overwhelming support and confidence of the good people who showed up in large number to vote for Accord Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke is more than confident of winning this election with a wide margin,” the statement said.
The campaign council commended Osun residents for what it described as a vote of confidence in the governor, while urging voters to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
It also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC), in collaboration with security personnel, was engaging in intimidation, vote-buying and unlawful arrests of opposition supporters.
The council claimed that its situation room had received several reports, which it said were supported by video evidence, detailing alleged incidents of electoral malpractice across the state.
“Precisely, we have reports of massive vote-buying where APC party officials offer voters N50,000 and N25,000 to get harvest their votes,” it alleged.
The council urged voters to reject alleged inducements and cast their ballots based on their preferred candidates.
“We urge the people of Osun State not to trade away their future for peanuts and vote in Governor Ademola Adeleke for the growth and development of our dear state,” it said.
The campaign organisation also alleged that soldiers had been deployed to arrest and detain Accord Party campaigners while voting was underway.
“We also note the perplexing deployment of unauthorised soldiers by the APC to arrest and detain Accord Party campaigners across the state even whilst voting was ongoing,” the statement said.
The council described the alleged development as unacceptable and called on voters to monitor the process and resist what it termed the “militarisation” of the election.
