A former Osun West Senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Peter Ogundeji, has said he joined the Accord Party because of what he described as the achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Ogundeji stated this on Wednesday at the Government House open field in Osogbo while leading thousands of his supporters into the Accord Party.
He said his decision to leave the APC was influenced by his assessment of Adeleke’s administration, adding that he would now support the governor’s bid for a second term.
The Ejigbo-born politician said his earlier decision to join the APC was based on his limited understanding of the political environment, adding that he had since been convinced by the governor’s performance.
“The tremendous work he is doing in Osun State encouraged me to join this party today and support his re-election bid,” he said.
Ogundeji also withdrew his previous criticisms of Adeleke’s administration, saying such comments were made in the course of political contest.
“Any statement made against your government was politically motivated. You have done well, Mr Governor. In terms of welfare, our civil servants, retirees and workers can testify to that,” he said.
He criticised the APC’s internal structure, alleging that the party favoured influential individuals in the selection of candidates, which he claimed affected his participation in its primary election.
Ogundeji also urged other APC members to support Adeleke’s re-election bid, saying the governor’s performance had earned him wider acceptance.
He expressed the belief that President Bola Tinubu and other political stakeholders had taken note of Adeleke’s administration’s performance.
